Environmental Impact

When developing a wind farm, many environmental factors are taken into account. To assess what potential impact the proposed wind farm could have on the site and its surrounding area, experts have undertaken studies in the fields of ecology, visual impacts on the landscape, noise and aviation.

The environmental assessment also considers what measures are required to avoid or reduce any adverse environmental impacts. The results of the investigations are documented in the Environmental Statement, that is available for public viewing at Purbeck District Council offices.

As well as seeking to avoid negative impact, the Alaska Wind Farm is well placed to create a positive environmental impact. The turbine sites have been located in worked out areas of a sand quarry, but adjoining good quality heathland. We would like to show how well the wind farm and nature conservation interests can be integrated by bringing forward ecological restoration proposals, and providing the financial certainty for future management.
