Masters Pit

The proposed site for the wind farm is Masters Quarry in East Stoke. We are looking at the site for a wind farm scheme comprising four turbines, each 84m high to hub, or up to 125m to blade tip and generating up to 2.3MW.

If constructed, the turbines would generate up to 9.2 MW (megawatts) of electricity.

The proposed Alaska Wind Farm site has been carefully selected following a detailed study of Dorset and the South West. The study identified Masters Quarry as a suitable location as it meets the criteria set out in the national planning policy guidelines.

  • It is located outside the area of outstanding national beauty (AONB) and site of special scientific interest (SSSI)
  • As a working quarry, it is known as a 'brownfield' site
  • The site offers many suitable tracks, reducing the need to construct or develop further tracks
  • The site has a viable wind resource based on the NOABL wind speed database
  • Many of the materials needed for construction would be available on site, thus reducing the amount of construction traffic normally associated with wind farms
  • There is sufficient capacity on the local energy network
